Metro Council member Scott Wilson was elected Mayor Pro-Tem by fellow members of the Council.  Wilson will serve as the leader of the Metro Council and as No. 2 leader in parish government.  The new Mayor Pro-Tem has represented Central on the Metro Council for the past eight years. He is a conservative Republican.

Former state Sen. Sharon Weston Broome, a Democrat, was elected Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish on December 10 over Sen. Bodi White of Central, a Republican.  Broome was sworn in Jan. 2, 2017.  The long-time legislator will serve a four-year term.
