Sen. David Vitter told the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge Tuesday that America is headed for severe economic problems and ultimately bankruptcy if the country fails to curb reckless spending by the federal government.
Vitter applauded the new, conservative-oriented Chamber for the stands it is taking. “You are filling a great need in representing real small business owners. This group upholds the principles that made our nation great.”
The senator said he is an ardent opponent of Obamacare and wants it defunded and repealed. He questioned how President Obama has the authority to enforce certain provisions of the law and not others. “By delaying the employer mandate, he is intentionally promoting the exchanges” and that will lead to a single-payer government system, he said.
He said his colleague Sen. Mary Landrieu is “doubling down on Obamacare,” even saying she would vote for it again if given the opportunity.
Besides repealing Obamacare and curbing federal spending, Vitter said the third most important thing is job creation. The ranking member of the Senate Environment Committee, Vitter said the explosion of natural gas discoveries and new technology means Louisiana could face boom times, if the Obama administration would stop trying to hamper energy exploration. If Republicans win the Senate, Vitter is in line to be the next chairman of his committee.
When asked the one thing citizens could do to help him, Vitter said send him a conservative, Republican colleague from Louisiana whom he can work with. Landrieu, a liberal Democrat, is up for reelection next year.
